History
Valsad, historically was known as Bulsar. It is the District headquarters of Valsad District. The name Valsad is derived from vad-saal, a Gujarati language, compound meaning hampered by banyan trees. Valsad District is one of the thirty-three districts of Gujarat State. It uniquely shares its borders with the State of Maharashtra and a Union Territory. The Arabian Sea lies to its West. The District’s administrative capital is Valsad and its largest city is Vapi. Upon bifurcation of State of Bombay in the year 1960, the State of Gujarat had come into existence.
